چکیده

We investigate the mutual influence of impurities in two-dimensional d-wave superconductors involving selfconsistent solutions of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. The local order parameter suppression, the local density of states (LDOS) as well as the interference of impurity-induced structures are analyzed. We employ an impurity position averaging scheme for the DOS that does not neglect these interference effects, as the commonly used T -matrix approaches do.

Impurity-induced states in conventional and unconventional superconductors

We review recent developments in our understanding of how impurities influence the electronic states in the bulk of superconductors. Our focus is on the quasi-localized states in the vicinity of impurity sites in conventional and unconventional superconductors and our goal is to provide a unified framework for their description. The non-magnetic impurity resonances in unconventional superconduc...

Impurity Resonances and the Origin of the Pseudo-Gap

We study the structure of resonance states localized around nonmagnetic impurities in the CuO2 planes of the cuprate superconductors within a potential scattering formalism. In particular we show that strong quantum interference effects arise between several impurities. This interference can be utilized to distinguish the dwave superconducting state from the phase with d-density wave order. Thi...

Antiferromagnetic correlations and impurity broadening of NMR linewidths in cuprate superconductors

We study a model of a d-wave superconductor with strong potential scatterers in the presence of antiferromagnetic correlations and apply it to experimental nuclear magnetic resonance NMR results on Zn impurities in the superconducting state of YBa2Cu3O7− . We then focus on the contribution of impurity-induced paramagnetic moments, with Hubbard correlations in the host system accounted for in Ha...

Kondo effect of impurity moments in d-wave superconductors: Quantum phase transition and spectral properties

We discuss the dynamics of magnetic moments in d-wave superconductors. In particular, we focus on moments induced by doping nonmagnetic impurities into cuprates. The interaction of such moments with the Bogoliubov quasiparticles of the superconductors can be described by variants of the pseudogap Kondo model, characterized by a power-law density of states at the Fermi level. The numerical renor...

On Distinguishing d-wave from Highly Anisotropic s-wave Superconductors

Systematic impurity doping in the Cu-O plane of the hole-doped cuprate superconductors may allow one to decide between unconventional (”d-wave”) and anisotropic conventional (”s-wave”) states as possible candidates for the order parameter in these materials. We show that potential scattering of any strength always increases the gap minima of such s-wave states, leading to activated behavior in ...
